Hello,
I just wanted to post a follow-up since I got sound working on my DV9500Z with XP SP3. This might help anyone else who is running into problems.
1. Install KB835221.EXE available from Microsoft. This small patch changes the audio and modem devices from being unknown on the PCI bus to being unknown HD audio devices. This needs to be done first or the devices will never be detected properly.
2. Install SP33867.EXE (Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio) available from HP
3. Install SP34200.EXE (Conexant audio drivers) available from HP. The setup likely won't detect your card, so you'll have to go into the \SWSETUP\SP34200 folder and modify AT8VEN5A.INF to contain your device info
-- Look for the [Conexant] section
-- Under that, find a line like
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.5045.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30BB
-- Look in Device Manager and double click the HD Audio device, then go to the Details tab, then select Hardware Ids
-- Modify the info in the .INF file to have the same info as what's in the Device Manager
-- save the .INF, and then manually/force install the driver by using "Update driver" and selecting the \SWSETUP\SP34200 folder
